Requirements

  • Ability to read and understand English. The textbook is written in English and Lectures will be given in English
  • Understanding of simple arithmetic. As it involves calculation
  • Participants must be committed, focused, dedicated and determined to succeed
  • Punctuality – lateness to class wouldn’t be tolerated. As missed classes will not be repeated.

    Aim of the Module: To enable individual create apparel or custom patterns with respective with respective final finishing according to the clothing requirements.

    1. How to accurately take Body Measurements
    2. Basic Bodice/ Torso Block Construction
      a. Waist Shaping
      b. Analysis of the Bodice Construction
      c. Dart Manipulations
      d. Basic Style lines- Empire, Princess and Wrap (
      e. Yokes
      f. Bustier and Brassiere
      g. Necklines + Asymmetric neckline
    3. Dress Foundation and Simple Manipulations
      a. Skirt block Foundation
      b. Skirt Variations; Straight, A-line, Pencil, Panel, Gore, Godet, Flare, Pleats, Gathers, Introduction to Asymmetric.
    4. Sleeve – Straight, Semi-shaped and Shaped
    5. Collar – Rolled, Flat, Revers
    6. Introduction to Basic Jackets Block
    7. Basic Trouser Block
    8. Fitted Trouser Block and Other Variations + pockets
    9. Jumpsuit Block

    Garment Construction

    Aim of the Module: This practical course is designed to take students from sewing experience to becoming an industrial machinist. The students are taught machine handling skills,skills of basic sewing techniques— application of stitches, seams, darts, gathers, pleats and edge finishing, etc.  production sewing and full garment construction techniques to industry standard.

    1. Parts of a Sewing Machine and Threading the machines. (Sewing and overlocking machines)
    2. Basic Machine Templates (10)
    3. Seams (Topstitch, Flat-Fell, French)
    4. Finishing Methods – Lining, Facing and Bias
    5. Zippers – Concealed, Exposed and Lapped
    6. Pockets – In-Seam, Hip, Patch

You will be introduced to Professional Garment Construction Techniques (Sewing) and Professional Patternmaking, learning the Priniples and Techniques of Design, Cut and Fit. A certificate of Completion will be issued after submitting a Satisfactory mini-project.
